Factors Affecting The Solvent Extraction Technique

Description:

Solvent extraction is one such alternative technique which has received considerable attention. Although bitumen is readily extractable by this method the overall process efficiency can be quite low because of substantial entrapment of solvent by the sand. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Title: Factors Affecting The Solvent Extraction Technique

1
Solvent Extraction
  • Extraction involving two immiscible liquid for
    separation of metal

2
  • Solvent Extraction technique ensure industrial
purification, extraction and recovery of metals
in the such as uranium, copper, nickel, cobalt
    and rare earths, from solutions.
  • It utilizes a special reagent as a solvent to
ensure the transfer of metal (to be extracted )
from one liquid media to the another liquid
    media.
  • The two liquid phases used in the extraction
process are immiscible that ensure the formation
    of two separate phases.

3
Factors Affecting The Solvent Extraction Technique
  • Composition of feed solution
  • Nature if the metal required to be extracted
  • The feed solution should not be miscible with
another liquid phase so that the extraction of
the metal can take place with effective measures.
And the metal desired to be extracted for the
solution should not be miscible with the two
liquid phase used in et extraction process.

  • The solvent extraction technique is commonly
employed in the petroleum refining industry. It
is specifically used in the extraction of
    automobile lubricating oil,  aromatic hydrocarbons
    ,  paraffinic and naphthenic hydrocarbons
  • The broad area of application where solvent
extraction technique is used widely include
    hydrometallurgy, rare metal recycling, bio
    separation, and environmental improvement.
  • Another important application of solvent
    extraction technique include Sweetening of
gasoline by extraction of sulfur-containing compou
    nds separation of vegetable
  • oils into relatively saturated and unsaturated
     glyceride
  • esters recovery of valuable chemicals in by-p
roduct coke oven plants pharmaceutical refining p
    rocesses and purifying of uranium.

  • The usage of solvent extraction technique in
chemical laboratories has been proven in various
aspects. It is commonly used in the during the
purification of the  organic synthesis and in
analytical separation of the mixtures in order to
    remove one or more constituents.
