How to Design a Brand Identity
2
  • A brand identity is the image of your company
that you promote to the world. Just as an
individual has an identity and personality, so
does a business entity. A brand identity
integrates the ideas, personality and values of a
company. If you take the time to design a brand
identity for your company, you will increase the
chances that customers will recognize and trust
your company in the future. It is important to
note that creating a brand identity is more than
    simply designing a logo.

Instructions
  • 1. Write down your company name on a sheet of
paper. If you do not yet have a company name (a
key element of designing a brand identity), start
    brainstorming attributes that describe your
    business.
  • 2. Write down images that may bring your company
name and type to mind. For instance, if you run a
pet store that sells exotic birds called Big
Birds Inc., possible imagery includes pictures of
birds, colorful images and a catchy saying like,
    "Polly wanna cracker."
  • 3. Brainstorm ideas from this imagery list for a
business logo to represent your brand identity
and to decide on a color scheme (no more than two
or three colors). In the Big Birds example, you
might choose a logo with the company name next to
a colorful cartoon of an exotic bird and use the
colors of the bird's feathers to represent the
    company.

Instructions
  • 4. Use your new brand logo, photos, images and
colors on all business communications, including
letterhead, business cards and your website. Keep
    everything consistent across all platforms,
either matching or looking very similar.
  • 5. Write a catch phrase or motto that will help
bring attention and recognition to your company.
For instance, "We sell big birds at small
prices." Use this saying in all advertisements,
    business communications (like emails), business
cards sales letters and any other materials you
    use to attract new customers.
