  • Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (September 5 1888-
    17 April 1985), we all has heard this name in
    school, especially on a specific day, which is on
    teachersday blog. He was a great Indian
    philosopher and educationist of the 20th century.
    Later, he became the first vice president and
    then the second president of the independent
    India.

  • He was born in the town of Tirutani, in a middle
    class family. His fathers name was Sarvepalli
    Veeraswami, and mothers name was Sitamma. It is
    said that, his father did not want him to study
    English language, rather wanted him to become a
    priest. But he joined the school and his early
    education held in the primary board high school
    of Tirutani. Later, he was sent to the
    Hermansburg Evangelical Lutheral Mission School
    in Tirupati for higher studies.

  • He jumped into when is teachers day accidently,
    when his cousin handed over his philosophy books
    to him. He read them and went deeper into the
    philosophy. His first book the ethics if Vedanta
    and its material presupposition, published in
    1903, was his thesis for the M.A. degree
    examination of Madras university.

    To him, philosophy is the study of life and the
    facts of life. His studies and analysis about
    Indian philosophy are great records in the
    history of India and has served the Indian
    culture.
  • His contributions are unforgettable, whether be
    as a philosopher or a socialist.

    of Madras and Calcutta. From the very beginning,
    he was popular among his students. He was an
    ideal for his students. Teaching was a thing that
    was so close to his heart. He even has his
    contribution in the political fields, but
    although being at any stage of his life, he was
    always a teacher by heart.

  • Being an educationist, he has a tremendous
    contribution in the history of education in
    India. When he became the second President of
    India in the year of 1962, some of his students
    came to him and wanted to celebrate his birthday,
    but, he insisted that rather celebrate the day in
    the honor if all the teachers of the nation as
    the teachers day. Since then, his birthday that
    is September 5 is observed as the teachers day
    in India.
