Title: Use Of Hydrogen Peroxide For Purifying Water
1Use Of Hydrogen Peroxide For Purifying Water
- Why water needs to be purified
In order to increase the purity level of water,
it needs to be treated for purification to
disinfect bacteria and other microorganisms. It
is important to purify water as the water which
is used without being purified can adversely
affect our health. It may go on to cause various
diseases inside our body. The need for
purification is all the more increased as our
water supply systems are not as efficient as they
should be in cleansing the water. Since they are
not reliable purifiers, hence, the process of
purification needs to be employed. We are all
aware that use of contaminated water may harm our
health. The past few years have seen an increase
in the number of deaths due to the consumption of
contaminated water. This calls for the need to
purify the water we use.
2Hydrogen Peroxide Purification
- There are different methods for purifying water.
One of these methods is using the hydrogen
peroxide purification method. Not only is this
method efficient, but it also has many advantages
over the other methods of purification.
3Advantages
- One of the main advantages is that this hydrogen
peroxide is completely soluble. Furthermore, it
does not form any other products. No gases are
formed either. It also does not add any
chemicals. Hence, the water remains unpolluted.
On combining with water, extra oxygen is
produced. This is because hydrogen peroxide
disintegrates into oxygen and hydrogen.
Increasing the level of oxygen in the water means
increasing the purity of water.
4Use in Cooling Towers
- Hydrogen peroxide comes into great use in cooling
towers. It may be used in such towers in
combination with some disinfectants. The
efficiency of hydrogen peroxide can be changed
with the changes in temperature and also by
changing the pH level. It also reduces pollution
by reducing the intensity of chemicals in the
water. These chemicals are dangerous as they
pollute the water. Examples of such chemicals are
iron and sulphur.
5Use in swimming pools
- An added advantage of hydrogen peroxide is that
it is used more than any other method in local
swimming pools. This is because it acts as a very
good disinfectant. This disinfectant may be
employed for reducing the chemicals in the pools.
The chemicals it removes are known to cause
rashes on our skin and allergies. This is mostly
due to the use of chlorine.
6Hydrogen Peroxide
- Thus, it can be said that hydrogen peroxide apart
from being the most effective water purifying
agent, also acts as an all rounder. These are the
reasons why this method is preferred over other
forms of treatment and processes. The removal of
certain chemicals is extremely important as some
chemicals act as toxicants and can reduce the
purity level of water.
