in1983 - Expertise in Composite fish culture in community
pond and Induced breeding in cultivable carps
6Idea
- After completing his B.A., Mr. Singh thought to
support his family income - They had a small piece of land that yielded very
low produce - So he decided to try something innovative gave
a try to pisciculture
7INITIALIZING
- Shri Sultan Singh took the village panchayatee

the KVK, NDRI, Karnal, and harvested in January
1986, giving a net profit of Rs 26,924.
8- In 1987, Shri Sultan Singh was persuaded to
reinvest a part of this amount in expanding fish
business. He invested Rs. 23,000 for construction
of a fish seed farm in his own agriculture land
which was low-lying, waterlogged and not very
productive. He constructed 4 nurseries, 2 rearing
ponds, a cavity tube well and a room. During
March-April, 1987, Shri Singh was imparted
training in common carp breeding. He sold 0.2
million fish seed of common carp _at_ Rs. 100/1,000
carps realizing an amount of Rs 20,000 within 3
months.
9- In 1989, Shri Singh was imparted training in
induced breeding of Indian major carps by
exogenous administration of pituitary hormones by
KVK, NDRI Karnal. By adopting fish breeding
programme of Indian major carps he earned more

16Why do we eat fish?
- Fish is high in protein, vitamins, minerals, and
omega 3 fatty acids, and can reduce some problems
associated with PMS, memory loss, cardiovascular
functions, colon cancer, and stroke. - Seafood supplements our diets with many
nutrients that are not available in other foods
like iodine
17- "Fish are excellent sources of protein, vitamin
B, vitamin D, trace minerals, and essential omega
3 fatty acids, which are lacking in most diets.
Some fish are richer sources of omega 3 than
others, and these are generally also richer in
vitamin D. Much like fish, shrimp has a lot of
same nutritional value. It's not one of the
highest in omega 3 fats, but it's not bad. Shrimp
are low in calories compared to the amount of
protein that you get," says Dana Reed, a
Certified Nutrition Specialist.
