Why Rent a CCIE Rack?
The CCIE exam has one purpose and one purpose
only. That purpose is to identify and then
certify experts that can perform competent
end-to-end networking. The skills required to do
this dictate that each candidate must demonstrate
an expert knowledge of the equipment, procedures,
and software setup of all the equipment in the
network. They must understand the interfaces from
one piece of hardware to the next. That includes
understanding what the interrelationships are so
that they can recognize and troubleshoot a
problem or fault in the system.

An incorrect software setup at the front end may
not manifest itself until farther down the line
as an inconsistency in another piece of hardware.
The subtleties, intricacies, and challenges are
legion and the candidate must demonstrate mastery
of them all. To become certified, you must pass
both a written qualification exam AND the
corresponding hands-on lab exam. The lab exam is
an 8 hour, hands on affair that requires you to
configure and troubleshoot the network setup. The
time constraint of 8 hours is the driving factor
as to why you must have as much time on the
network practicing and anticipating all the
issues you will face in the lab exam.

Points to remember
There are two alternative scenarios to consider
in your decision to rent or not to rent time on a
CCIE rack.

• You currently have a CCIE rack of equipment
  where you work and you get experience every day
  in facing problems and solving them. You have a
  valid point but do you face ALL the possible
  problems you might encounter in the CCIE lab
  exam? Probably not. Will your company allow you
  to purposely fault their system so you can
  practice? Probably not.

• You could build your own CCIE rack and
  practice on it. The equipment is expensive and if
  you are doing with a profit motive and business
  plan in mind, it might work. However, if you are
  not planning to go into business and make a
  profit with it, then you have some other problems
  to consider.
• Rent time on a certified CCIE rack and save
  yourself the pain and frustration of getting a
  NOT PASS on your attempt to certify.
