2Ron GallelaPaparazzi
- Ron Gallela is an American photographer known as
Paparazzo Extraordinaire or the Godfather of
the US paparazzi culture. - He is widely regarded as the most controversial
celebrity photographer in the world. - Gallela is known for taking great risks to get
the perfect shot, as a result he has endured many
highly publicised court battles, prison stays and
even attacks from those who he is trying to
photograph.
3The photography is documentary. It was taken to
record a celebrity in this case, Elvis Presley-
leaving a particular place or building.
The reason for this photograph is for commercial
purposes as the photo was taken in order to be
sold to a source.
The vantage point of the photograph is
interesting, especially the distance it is taken
from. The photo looks to be taken from the other
side of the car that Elvis is getting into, this
provides a sense that theres always something
protecting him as if he is untouchable.
The main subjects face appears most clearest in
the photography. The people behind are either
distorted by shadows or covered by the main
subject Elvis Presley.
Whats interesting about this photo, and in many
others taken by Ron Gallela, is that the subject
looks artificial almost plastic. This could
suggest that Gallela is trying to project an
image of fake Hollywood from the photographs
that he takes.
You are drawn the subject in the photograph, he
appears to be the lightest value and is also
surrounded by a lot of dark tones, for example
the dark colours of the car and the shadows on
the left hand side of the photo.
4Annie LeibovitzCelebrity Portraits
- Annie Leibovitz is an American portrait
photographer. - She is best known for her portrait photographs
taken for institutions and people such as John
Lennon, The Rolling Stones Magazine and John
Armatrading. - She has worked for a range of celebrities
including Kim Kardashian, Dolly Parton, Bill
Gates, Bruce Springsteen, Barack Obama and Queen
Elizabeth II.
5The photograph could be placed into the category
of documentary photography as it was taken to
record Suris arrival and also the Cruises as a
family.
The central focus of the photograph is firmly
fixed on Suri Cruise. The little girl stands out
mainly because of the direction of the subjects
gaze - you automatically glance at what they are
looking at.
The Photograph itself was taken for artistic
purposes. The photograph was taken as a family
portrait, following the arrival of Tom Cruise and
Katie Holmes child Suri.
The photograph itself is very expressive in the
way of communicating the parents strong love for
their child. We can see this from the direction
two of the subjects are looking lovingly down
on their daughter.
The photograph has a lot of light and the
subjects face appear to be luminated. This
expresses the happiness and joy of the family
photo.
