Famous photographers
  • By Luca Munro

Keith Sutton F1 and motorsport
Keith Sutton is probably the most highly
respected photographer in the world of Formula
One and motorsport. His work is mainly done on F1
weekends where he stations himself at all the
circuits looking for the best shot angles at all
the events. Sutton began motorsport photography
on an amateur status in 1977 age 17 by going to
local race events before deciding to take it up
full time three years later. The photo you see
above is from the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix at
Spa-Francorchamps, and Sutton has stationed
himself at the legendary Eau Rouge, watching one
of the Mercedes F1 cars going up through the
corner itself.

The Fab Four of Grand Prix Racing in the 1980's
and early 1990's!
Keith Sutton took this photo in I believe 1986 or
1987. These four from left to right are Ayrton
Senna, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Nelson
Piquet who all would become Grand Prix legends.
The reason this photo was taken was because all
four of them were in contention for the
championship that year, and became so synonymous
within F1 because even though Prost and Piquet
were already F1 world champions, Senna and
Mansell would later both become F1 world
champions. The background is blurred so that the
four personalities who would all go on to clash
all stand out in this foreground and would
showcase all of them, you are drawn to them
rather than focussing on the background.
4
Terry Richardson Fashion
Here is the very controversial photographer Terry
Richardson, whose work ranges mainly in fashion,
modelling, advertising campaigns and celebrity
photo-shoots. He held his first gallery showing
in 1998, but has often come under fire for his
in-studio antics and exploiting models for his
own sexual pleasure. Before that, his first
published photos were in Vibe in 1994.
5
Will Ferrell Beer Glasses Here we have the
very successful comedy actor Will Ferrell wearing
beer glasses. Ferrell is not a very diverse actor
and often uses slapstick to get fame through his
acting. The beer shades teamed with his facial
expression very much sums up Ferrells appeal in
this Terry Richardson photo. His placement in the
photo, tint over his eyes and blank background
draw your attention to his upper face.
6
Bryan Adams Portrait
The Canadian musician Bryan Adams took on
photography alongside his singing career and has
worked for many publications, had his work in
loads of art galleries and worked with many of
his musical peers. He was even picked to
photograph the Queen of England for her Golden
Jubilee celebrations and one of the photos was
used on a Canadian postage stamp in 2004 and 2005.
7
Bryan Adams photography I dont know who is in
this photo but I feel Bryan Adams pulled off
showing vulnerability when a woman loses her
hair. Hair on a womans head is so common, it is
often unheard of for a woman to be bald, in
comparison to a man who can go bald and not
really be too phased by it as many men do go
bald. Women become extremely self conscious and
vulnerable if they lose their hair. The lighting
along with no clothes is trying to show
vulnerability with the make up showing a very
women-like face so you couldnt mistake her for a
man. This shows if you take something from a
woman that they can really only have, their
strength as an individual goes down.

Don McCullin Photojournalism
Don McCullin earned his admiration for displaying
war pictures and depicting the unemployed,
downtrodden and the impoverished and specialises
in the understanding of society through his
work. Between 1966 and 1984, he worked as an
overseas correspondent for the Sunday Times
Magazine, recording ecological and man-made
catastrophes such as war-zones, amongst them
Biafra, in 1968 and victims of the African AIDS
epidemic. His hard-hitting coverage of the
Vietnam War and the Northern Ireland conflict is
particularly highly regarded.
9
Darkness visible
Don McCullins photos of wartime portray the
weaknesses within the picture, this showing the
struggle of humans who dont have the power to
help themselves, living in poverty right in the
middle of the struggle. Powerful and thought
provoking, it shows the under-privileged and
their fight for survival in a war they really
shouldnt have to get involved in.
10
Andy Rouse Wildlife
Andy Rouse is an inspirational wildlife
photographer who is well known the world over. A
unique and charismatic figure he is famed for his
ability to capture moments from the lives of
animals and birds in the wild from a different
view point and often from his trade-mark stance,
that of being "up close and personal" to some of
the most fascinating and often potentially
dangerous animals. Over recent years, Andy's
photographic style has been developing to be all
encompassing of the animals and their environment
in order to augment his passion for telling a
story and to highlight the beauty of the natural
world.
11
Surf riding penguin
This Andy Rouse photo to me anyway implies a more
comical side, a penguin riding a wave. But also
does show some power, and how unique in ways most
creatures are in contrast to us as humans,
showing their abilities that we humans
cannot. Also showcasing that the penguin is a
dynamo, it is small but packs a punch and
surprises us with its abilities.
