1
Task 1 Photography Analysis.
  • By Katie Beadle

2
Landscape photographer Andrew Davies
  • Having lived in Acklam, Middlesbrough, for most
of his life, Andrew presents a portfolio of
photographs from around Teesside and the North
East. His collection includes photographs of the
famous Transporter Bridge, Bamburgh Castle, MIMA,
    Fountains Abbey and many more.
  • Surrounded by Teesside obvious beauty for the
majority of his life, Andrews main aim is to
showcase the area and that surroundings hidden
    beauty for all to see.

3
Photograph Analysis.
  • In the background, the steelworks can be faintly
seen. This content is what the area is famed for
and the way the steelworks are almost rising up
from the landscape and fog, showcases this.
  • The clearest subject in the photo is the horse
and rider, however the direction the horse is
going, draws you towards the abstracted
    background of the steelworks.
  • The photograph gives a good indication of the
time of day it was took because of the light
displayed. The sun is lower in the sky which
creates shadows in places of the beach and a line
of natural, soft light streaming from the sun.
  • In the forefront of the photograph, a horse and
its rider can be seen riding across the beach.
This creates quite a contact of a natural element
against the backdrop of the steelworks.
  • There is a theme of finding beauty in the
unlikeliest of places. E.G. The steelworks.
  • The setting the photo is taken in real, as is the
    scenery.

4
Lifestyle photographer Jonathan Knowles
  • Jonathan Knowles is a London based photographer
specialising in graphic still life, liquid and
    people photography.
  • Although the base of his photography is
lifestyle, the purpose of his photos is usually
    advertising.

5
Photograph Analysis.
  • The background of the photograph is entirely
black, as if the objects are in a completely
    black space/room.
  • One of the two main objects in the photograph, is
surrounded by wispy, curvy lines which creates a
motion effect, as if the butterfly next to the
flower has been dashing around it.
  • The main focus of the photograph the flower with
the motion of the butterfly second.
  • The photo contains an organic shape of a flower.
  • The photograph displays a direct approach, the
scene is simple and straight forward.
  • There is a big contrast between the darkness of
the background and the vibrancy lit objects
    flower and butterfly.
  • The photograph is representation, with the
    objects being recognisable.

6
Photojournalism photographer David Burnett

four decades of work covering the news, the
people, and visual tempo of our age. His works

politics, the famous, the infamous and the
    unfamous.
  • The aim of his photographs is the unveil a visual
history of more than four decades.

7
Photograph Analysis
  • The photo is in black and white, this is
effective as it tells its viewers that the
campaign is what it is, its black and white.
what they promise is what they deliver.
  • The lightest value is coming from behind, he is
    bringing light with him.
  • The subject in the photo is making a speech, for
a campaign or possibly reacting to an incident
    that has happened.
  • The angle of the photograph was taken from is a
low vantage point. As a consequence of this, the
subject looks dominant and like he possesses a
    lot of power.
  • The contrast of the photo is particularly
interesting, a lot of the photograph is dark,
apart from behind and surrounding the subject,
this possibly translates that the subject is
    bring positivity.
  • The photographs main focus is documentary
    photography.
  • The setting of the photograph is real.
  • The central focus of the photo is very straight
    forward. There is no distraction.
