  this review possible. The Nintendo 3DS launched
  on March 27, 2011. Due to Nintendo's increased
  safeguards against piracy, it was speculated that
  it could be years before we would see a "hack"
  that would make it possible to enjoy 3DS ROMs.
  Especially after Nintendo's response to Nintendo
  DS Flash Kit makers and manufacturers, this was
  to be expected. Finally, with the release of the
  Gateway 3DS, a new era of hacking has come.

• As a 3DS enthusiast, I was intrigued by the
  Gateway 3DS. I was filled with anticipation
  before getting my hands on one. About a month
  before release, the Gateway 3DS team published
  information that the Gateway 3DS would only works
  on 3DS units with firmware 4.five or earlier. My
  3DS was updated to the most recent firmware,
  which at the time was five.1. Fortunately, I was
  able to pick up a 3DS XL with firmware four.4.0
  at a local store. To be sure the unit I bought
  would be compatible, I checked the manufacturing
  date.

• All new 3DS units made during 2012 or earlier
  will have a firmware lower than 5.0. With my
  compatibility problem remedies, I was eager to
  tackle the evaluation of the Gateway 3DS - along
  with the 3DS sport library I had already

• The Gateway 3ds card may be the world's first 3DS
