Title: From Cell Line Development to Membrane Protein Production

1
From Cell Line Development to Membrane Protein
Production
Prepared and Compiled by Creative Biomart
  • Membrane proteins are proteins that interact with
biological membranes. They are targets of over
50 of all modern medicinal drugs. It is
estimated that 2030 of all genes in most
    genomes encode membrane proteins.

2
Importance
  • Membrane receptor proteins relay signals between
the cell's internal and external environments.
  • Transport proteins move molecules and ions across
the membrane. They can be categorized according
    to the Transporter Classification database.
  • Membrane enzymes may have many activities, such
    as oxidoreductase, transferase or hydrolase.
  • Cell adhesion molecules allow cells to identify
each other and interact. For example proteins
    involved in immune response.

3
However
  • Despite their importance, membrane receptors are
notoriously difficult to prepare in pure,
correctly-folded form in sufficient quantity for
    drug discovery purposes.

Membrane Protein Services
  • Creative Biomart has been working with
    pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic
customers and collaborators since its founding,
    providing membrane protein-related products and
services that advance its customers scientific
    objectives.
  • Custom Membrane Protein Production
  • Cell Line Development and Membrane Preparation
  • Lipid-based Protein Immobilization
