Title: Receiver in Canal Hearing Aids

1
Receiver in Canal Hearing Aids(RIC)
2
  • The receiver-in-canal (RIC) model is a latest
development in hearing aids and it is suitable
for mild to severe hearing loss.

3
  • Though the RIC model is a discreet one, it is a
very powerful hearing aid, which works fully
    automatically.

4
RIC Parts
  • The RIC model consists the following three parts
  • The housing, which sits behind the ear
  • Thin ear wire connecting the housing to the
    receiver
  • The receiver goes directly into the ear canal

5
How it Works
  • In contrast to a classic behind-the-ear (BTE)
hearing aid, in RIC model the receiver of the is
placed in the ear-tip instead of in the housing.
  • Note that the RIC model is quite similar to the
RITE model. The difference is the placement of
    the receiver in the ear.

6
Receiver-in-the-Canal Features
  • Available in mini or micro sizes
  • Sound directed into the ear canal through
    receiver unit
  • Can be fit with standard domes or custom ear
    molds
  • Virtually unnoticeable when worn
  • For mild to severe hearing losses
  • Variety of color options available

7
Advantages of an RIC over a BTE
  • Ordinarily less feedback than the equivalent BTE.
  • Generally the RIC is smaller than the
    corresponding battery size BTE

8
Disadvantages of an RIC over a BTE
  • More maintenance is required
  • A RIC is more susceptible to blockages caused by
    earwax
