Title: Task 4 - Edited and Original images
1Task 4 By Luca Munro
2Above is my original photo, and to make it go
from that to what you see on the left was use
quick selection to cut out myself and my model
Rebekah onto a plain black background. I then
decided to take our silhouettes and make them a
simple Sin City-inspired black and white theme,
and then also added a glow effect to the cut
outs. This then proceeded into me looking for
possible fonts for the cover. Mainly taking
inspiration from books like The Fault In Our
Stars, with the very distinct font that looks
like it has been wrote by a person. For this, we
took the fonts from DaFont.com and had them
pasted onto another document in which we removed
the background and applied them to the main
picture. Final effect we added was that of
adding colour to my eyes, the main central point.
So out of absolute narcissism, I wanted my eyes
to be blue, but also because they would stand out
more and be more of a focal point. Doing this we
quick selected the eyes and pasted them onto
another document, used the colour replacement and
then my eyes went from hazel to a light blue.
3For this take on the cover, I decided to make our
still into silhouettes of us and have a black and
red theme for the cover. I did add a finer edge
to the finished product so my silhouette didnt
have any uneven edges with my hair. I feel the
silhouette very clearly shows what our bodies are
doing in the original photo, even more so that
being an even colour means that people are more
focused on the shape and can study it even
more. The red and black theme was added because
red is seen as a colour of love and teamed with
black and white, it really does present itself as
a colour that stands out. I used quick select
and colour overlay to create the silhouette, and
used the background filler effect to add a red
background.
4For this photo, I originally went out to create a
painting-esc image that the instructions to are
on this link - http//photoshopfrenzy.com/?p94mo
re-94 I followed the instructions and the image
came out a lot less satisfactory than I had first
expected, but it gave me a brainwave to merge it
onto a photo taken with a instant camera, having
developed a slightly below par image. I was
hoping it was serve as a metaphor. Placing the
actual image onto the photo was difficult and I
wish it had been easier to tilt the image
backward a bit so I pasted the image onto the
photo, and coloured the surroundings black and
white to make it look like a photo. As for the
writing, I pasted it on and used a Stroke effect
which exposed the writing and created a cloud
effect around the writing which I loved.
5This is my fourth photo, and for this I decided
to shift novels to how I chronologically set out
all of these fictional novelists books, as
Paulettas second novel. I decided to try and
make the photo a lot more even by using the oil
painting effect, and that worked very well so I
pasted it onto the document and gave it an outer
glow effect. Using the same effect as before
with the writing, I pasted a background copy and
in-between, the half faded clock to put behind me
and Rebekah.
6For my final piece, I picked one of my original
shots with my friend Charlotte posing as a model.
I felt my previous shots were not up to par but
this photo I felt did work the best out of all
the ones we did together. Our tutor Stephen took
the photo from a high angle, and I decided to
crop the photo down to Charlotte close up which
looking at the before and after, I feel works for
what I had in mind. Though there is no clear
indication that the photo has links with the
title, I feel I could convince someone that
Charlottes hesitance can equate to the dawn of
doubt for her character. I must point out that I
have made all of these books go in chronological
order and the story is all the same, so
Charlottes character is the same as Rebekahs in
the other books. Consider it a Katie Holmes to
Maggie Gyllenhaal recasting if you will. I
pasted a black background after using quick
selection and used pasted the colour overlay on
the writing with the outer glow effect on
Daybreak and the skate effect on the novel
crediting.
