What is Shared Parenting?

• Shared parenting or equal parenting means when
  the children are brought up with the love of both
  parents even though they are separated.

Things to Consider in Shared Parenting

• The children should feel that they are being
  loved by both of the parents.
• One parent should not dominate the other through
  the children.
• The lives of the children should not be
  controlled by either of the parent.
• The children should be able to spend their time
  equally with both of the parents. This may
  include homework, leisure time etc.

How to Practice Effective Shared Parenting?

• Weekend contact is necessary. This begins when
  the children are picked up from school on Friday
  and dropped on Monday.
• Mid week contact is also necessary. This includes
  picking the children from school and if practical
  the child staying overnight.
• Special events like Christmas, birthdays and the
  siblings birthdays should be celebrated
  together.

• The children should not be dropped to day care
  centers if one of the parent is available to look
  after them.
• Children should be allowed to spend the time with
  the grandparents and wider families adequately.
• If one of the parent is not giving enough time to
  the children, he shall not be given any priority
  for the time when he/she is available.
