Arthritis

• Osteoarthritis usually starts in late fourth
  decade but inflammatory arthritis appears
  earlier. Wearing out of the smooth lining of
  articular cartilage and exposure of bone
  underneath is arthritis. With progressive damage
  there is increased pain, stiffness, loss of range
  of motion, swelling and instability. Arthritis
  can develop because of old age, previous injury,
  birth defects, fracture, diseases like rheumatoid
  arthritis, etc.

Total Knee Replacement

• In modern total knee replacement surgery, only
  the worn out cartilage surfaces of the joint are
  replaced.The entire knee is not actually
  replaced. The operation is basically a
  resurfacing (or retread) procedure. On
  resurfaced area, hip or knee joints made up of
  specialized alloy metal and ultra high density
  polyethylene (UHDP) plastic are placed.

Revision Joint Replacement Surgery

• Modern joint replacement surgery and the
  prostheses used in these surgeries are a mature
  technology, with many advancements over the past
  several decades. However, despite the wide
  success and excellent outcomes, nearly all
  artificial joints can be expected to wear out
  after enough time and wear. Joint replacement
  surgery is analogous to repairing the moving
  parts of a car, then sealing the engine
  compartment and achieving decades of 16 hours of
  daily use without lifting the hood again!

Total Hip Replacement

• Hip replacement, also called total hip
  arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to replace
  a worn out or damaged hip with a prosthesis (an
  artificial joint). This surgery may be considered
  following a hip fracture (breaking of the bone)
  or for someone who has severe pain due to
  arthritis. AVN arthritis affects young patients
  in India and may require THR at young age.
  Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that
  affects mostly middle-aged and older adults, may
  cause the breakdown of joint cartilage and
  adjacent bone in the hips.
