FUE NeoGraft vs. Traditional Strip Hair Transplant
  • Hair loss becomes more and more prevalent with
age, in both men and women. In addition to that,
    many individuals are simply genetically
predisposed to thin hair, which gradually thins
out completely or in patches. Since many
societies place a premium on have a full head of
hair, it can be incredibly important to some
people that they maintain a full head of hair in
order to maintain their desirability and social
utility. For those looking to avoid the effects
of male or female pattern baldness, there are two
    options available traditional strip hair
    transplantation or FUE NeoGraft.

What is traditional strip hair transplantation?
  • Otherwise known as Follicular Unit
    Transplantation (FUT), traditional strip hair
transplantation involves removing a long strip of
scalp and hair from the back of the head and then
implanting those strips to areas of that head
that have hair loss. Since the posterior of the
scalp tends to be the best area for hair growth,
samples are (as an industry standard) removed
from that area of the scalp. As such, the scalp
on the back of the head tends to lose feeling.
  • Recovery time for this procedure is generally
2-3 weeks, and it is necessary for the patient to
return to their surgeon in order for a review of
the graft and the removal of staples. FUT
patients often cite the long linear scar at the
back of the head as a drawback in addition to
thelong healing times. Also, according to
Dr.Torgerson, a facial plastic surgeon based out
of Toronto, another topcomplaint among patients
of strip hair transplant is that they can not
wear different hair styles. Patients that undergo
the strip procedure need to have the hairs in the
back of their heads long to cover up the scar.

What is FUE NeoGraft?
  • FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, is a
    precision based transplantation procedure that
involves the removal of individual follicles and
replanting of those follicles elsewhere in the
scalp. Small, microscopic punches are made in
order to extract intact follicles. Tiny micro
blades and needles are then used to prepare the
implantation site, where the uprooted follicles
are then replanted. FUE surgical time can vary
from one long session to several short sessions
    and anything in between.

  • Recovery time for this particular procedure is
less than a week since unlike the strip procedure
there is no staples and involved. FUE is hailed
for its minimal scarring and its natural look.
