Basic Golf Etiquettes
2
What is Golf Etiquette?
  • Golf Etiquette refers to a set of rules and
practices designed to make the game
  • of golf safer and more enjoyable for golfers and
    to minimize possible damage to
  • golf equipment and courses
  • Unlike many sports, golf is played, for the most
part, without the supervision of a
  • referee or umpire
  • The game relies on the integrity of the
individual to show consideration for other
  • players and to abide by the Rules
  • All players should conduct themselves in a
    disciplined manner, demonstrating
  • courtesy and sportsmanship at all times,
irrespective of how competitive they may be

  • Safety
  • Pace of Play
  • Respect for Other Players
  • Golf Cart Etiquette
  • Golf Course Maintenance
  • Miscellaneous

4
Safety
  • Players should ensure that no one is standing
close by when they make a stroke or
  • practice swing
  • Players should not play until the players in
    front are out of range
  • If a player's ball appears to be headed towards
    another player or group, he/she
  • should immediately yell "FORE" in order to alert
    the player or group

5
Pace of Play
  • Players should play at a good pace and keep up
    with the group
  • From the time the player selects his club until
he actually hits his shot, he should
  • take no more than 30 to 45 seconds
  • Players should be ready to play as soon as it is
    their turn to play
  • If a player is not ready to take his shot then he
    should encourage his fellow
  • players to play

6
Pace of Play
  • If a player has lost his golf ball in the water
or is out of bounds, then in order to
  • save time, he should play with a provisional ball
or let the player behind him move
  • forward till he tries to find his golf ball

7
Respect for Other Players
  • Players should not distract or disturb other
    players when they are preparing
  • to putt
  • Players should ensure that any electronic device
    taken onto the course does
  • not distract other players
  • If a player does not have a caddie and has been
    asked to tend the flagstick,
  • he should make sure that he is not standing on
    anyone's line
  • In stroke play, a player who is acting as a
marker should, if necessary, on the
  • way to the next tee, check the score with the
    player concerned and record it

8
Golf Cart Etiquette
  • Never go joyriding with the golf cart, accidents
    occur due to negligence
  • Never drive the cart through the lush green grass
    or muddy areas
  • Never drive the cart within the hazard boundaries
    or within 10 yards
  • of water hazards or bunkers

9
Golf Course Maintenance
Divots should always be repaired, either by
placing sand in the divot or replacing the
grass, preferably with a driver. Player should
repair any divot holes made by them.
10
Golf Course Maintenance
Players should enter the bunker from the low side
at a point nearest to the ball. Before leaving a
bunker, players should carefully fill up and
smooth over all holes and footprints made by them
and any nearby made by others. A rake should be
used for this purpose.
11
Miscellaneous
  • Players have the responsibility of learning and
    understanding the Rules of
  • the game
  • Players should always know which brand of golf
    ball they are using,
  • or mark it to avoid confusion during play
  • Players yelling, screaming, throwing clubs or
    otherwise making a fool of
  • themselves is unacceptable and, in some cases,
    dangerous to others
  • Players, at the end of the round, should shake
    hands with his fellow players,
  • congratulate the winners, console the losers, and
    thank them for their company
