Franklin Cockerill - Fellowships
Franklin Cockerill is a world renowned clinical
microbiologist and the recipient of several
fellowships. Cockerill is a Fellow of the
American College of Physicians (FACP), Fellow of
the American College of Chest Physicians (FACCP)
and Fellow of Infectious Diseases Society of
America. He also is a Fellow of the Infectious
Diseases Society of America (FIDSA), and Fellow,
American Academy of Microbiology (FAAM)

Franklin Cockerill - Education
Franklin Cockerill has completed many years of
graduate and postgraduate education with a
concentration in the medical sciences.. Cockerill
earned a Bachelor of Science in Medicine joint
degree, from Creighton University and the
University of Nebraska. From the University of
Nebraska, Omaha, Cockerill also earned his
Medical Degree (MD) in 1977. Thereafter he
completed a residency in Internal Medicine at
Mayo Clinic, a fellowship in Infectious Diseases
at Mayo Clinic and a fellowship in Clinical
Microbiology at the University of Toronto.

Franklin Cockerill - Academic Success
Franklin Cockerill has excelled in the
translation of basic science principles into
clinical applications for diagnosing and treating
patients. Two major aspects of his work focused
on the development of novel testing methods for
the rapid and efficient detection of agents of
bioterrorism and antibiotic resistance. Cockerill
was an Editor of the Journal of Clinical
Microbiology from 2005 to 2010. Franklin
Cockerill has been published numerous
peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters
related to the diagnosis of and treatment of
infectious diseases. Additionally he has
presented numerous lectures at national and
international venues to the scientific community.

Franklin Cockerill - Other Interests
Frank Cockerill enjoyed a long and fruitful
association with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
Minnesota. He completed two terms as Chair of its
Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
When he isnt involved in work-related
activities, Franklin Cockerill his enjoys
physically and mentally challenging himself. He
is a medical volunteer, a weight lifter,
marathoner, gardener, and pianist. He is also an
avid reader.
