Title: Global Environment Outlook: The Thermal Power energy

1
Global Environment Outlook
The Thermal Power Energy
2
Introduction
  • Global Environment Outlook is the thermal energy.
this energy is generated and stored in the Earth.
Thermal energy is the energy that determines the
temperature of matter. This energy also called
    geothermal energy.
  • The geothermal energy of the Earth's crust
originates from the original formation of the
planet (20) and from radio active decay of
    materials (80).

3
  • Geothermal energy (from the Greek roots Geo,
meaning earth, and thermos, meaning heat) is
energy made by heat inside the Earth's crust. It's
    clean and sustainable.

Types of Geothermal Power Energy
Plants
  • Direct Dry Steam.
  • Flash and Double Flash Cycle.
  • Binary Cycle.

5
  • Direct Dry Steam
  • Steam plants use hydro thermal fluids that are
primarily steam. The steam goes directly to a
turbine, which drives a generator that produces
electricity. The steam eliminates the need to
burn fossil fuels to run the turbine. (Also
eliminating the need to transport and store
    fuels!)

Direct Dry Steam
7
  • Hydro thermal fluids above 360F (182C) can be
used in flash plants to make electricity.
  • Fluid is sprayed into a tank held at a much lower
pressure than the fluid, causing some of the
fluid to rapidly vaporize, or "flash." The vapor
then drives a turbine, which drives a generator.

  • Most geothermal areas contain moderate-temperature
water (below 400F). Energy is extracted from
these fluids in binary-cycle power plants.

Benefits of Geothermal Power
Energy
  • Provides clean and safe energy using little land.
  • Is renewable and sustainable.
  • Generates continuous ,reliable baseload power.
  • Conserves fossil fuels and contributes to
    diversity in energy sources.
  • Avoids importing and benefits local economies.
  • Offers modular, incremental development and
    village power to remote sites.

12
Advantages of Geothermal Power
Energy
  • It is a renewable source of energy.
  • By far, it is non-polluting and environment
    friendly.
  • There is no wastage or generation of by-products.
  • Geothermal energy can be used directly. In
ancient times, people used this source of
energy for heating homes, cooking, etc.
  • Maintenance cost of geothermal power plants is
    very less.

13
Disadvantages of Geothermal Power
Energy
  • Only few sites have the potential of Geothermal
    Energy.
  • Total generation potential of this source is too
    small.
  • There is always a danger of eruption of volcano.
  • Installation cost of steam power plant is very
    high.
