Welcome To The Finchley Clinic
  • Probiotics Are There Any Benefits In Taking a
    Supplement?

2
  • Probiotics have become increasingly popular in
recent years. In 2016, its expected to grow in
size to a 4 billion industry. Thats quite
significant for a health supplement. However, the
use of probiotics supplements, such as Biocare
acidophilus, has been met with controversy in
some circles. This is unfortunate given that many
respected studies have enthused about their
health benefits. Here, we're going to explore the
health benefits of probiotic supplements, such as
    Biocare acidophilus, for humanity.

3
  • Is there any scientific backing? Theres a common
notion amongst a certain type of person that all
health supplements are tantamount to hokum. That
it just doesnt work and that the only doctors
that would condone the use of such medicines are
the quacks and charlatans. However, this simply
isnt the case. It is widely acknowledged that
probiotics play a very important role in the
human body. You will not find a doctor who
disagrees with this. Where the disagreement
arises is in the issue of supplements and whether
    deriving probiotics through health supplements
like Biocare acidophilus is the same as deriving
them through natural means, such as
human-to-human contact or eating dairy foods.

  • Well, some doctors recommend their patients take
a probiotic to help ease the pain of irritable
bowel syndrome. Its unclear whether its the
placebo effect, or whether its actually
generating some kind of change that is improving
that IBS, but taking a probiotic supplement does
appear to help some people cope with the symptoms
of their IBS. There have been a few positive
clinical studies that have found great benefit in
the supplementation with probiotics of people
    suffering with certain digestive disorders.
However, its important to note that these
strains of probiotics that they have studied in
clinic may not necessarily be the same as the
ones that are present in the probiotic
    supplements.

6
  • Different probiotics have differing effects, so
if you're thinking of starting a probiotic
health-regime, then its important that you
research the various strains on offer in the
market. Also, check you the online reviews of the
product. Theres no better way to work out how
good it is than from the people whove tried and
tested it. However, remember to think critically
about the reviews that you read. Some may be
written by paid shills, others may be being a bit
too kind or a bit too nice. Its best to develop
an overall impression of what people think of the
product, rather than running with one or two
    reviews.

7
  • There are many benefits to using probiotics, but
it depends on which strain you take. For example,
there is definitely evidence that a strain known
as lactobacillus GG helps to reduce the amount of
time and the volume of diarrhoea caused by
infection (i.e. it wont help you deal with the
after-beer trots, but it will help you deal with
the tummy bug thats going around work). Women
often use yoghurts to deal with thrush, and so
many do it that it must cause some relief,
whether thats the cold of the yoghurt or the
    probiotic, the jurys still out.
