BY TOURS TRAVELS DEPARTMENT

HIKING (AN IDEA)
  • Hiking is the preferred term for a long, vigorous
walk, usually on trails (footpaths), in the
countryside, while the word walking is used for
    shorter, particularly urban walks.
  • best for experienced, confident, self-sufficient
    high altitude hikers

One of the best hiking regions in the world is
the INDIAN HIMALAYA.

HIKING TRIALS IN NORTH INDIA
  • AT A GLANCE
  • Ladakh, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and
    Uttarakhand in the west.
  • Darjeeling and Sikkim in the east

HIKING SEASONS
  • Hiking seasons somewhere May-Nov (though
micro-climates vary greatly). Many treks are not
recommended in Jul-Aug though you can hike most
places in Ladakh in those months as its in the
    monsoon rain shadow.

PACKING FOR HIKING
  • Rule for backpacking if you cannot decide if you
need it, you probably will not need it.
  • Make a list to include everything that you will
    possibly need on your trip.
  • Reduce food weight and volume by packing
    primarily dehydrated meals.
  • Shop for a tent that suits your needs
  • Determine how much water you will need between
    the two points.
  • Wear whatever you find comfortable there is no
    hiking dress code.
  • Bring a hand-held flashlight or a headlamp, for
    hands-free use.
  • When packing your backpack, place heavy items,
such as water, camp stove and fuel, tent poles
and stakes, and food near the top of your pack
    and close to your back.
