Title: Five mistakes we keep making while organizing our homes
1Five mistakes we keep making while organizing our
homes
2None of us likes the idea of living in a
cluttered home. However, keeping our living space
completely clutter-free and well-organized
requires regular cleaning sprees. We also keep on
experimenting and implementing newer ways to
organize our homes trying to find the perfect
system that works. Yet there are some common
mistakes that we invariably make no matter which
methods we use. These mistakes lower the
efficiency and effectiveness of our efforts.
Here are five of the most common mistakes we
make and how to avoid them the next time you
decide to organize and de-clutter your home.

4- Comparison
- When we begin planning an organizing session, we
tend to imagine the final results. This picture
is usually based on something we saw in magazine
or a home weve been tobelonging to either a
friend, relative or colleague. Design ideas or
others homes can often leave a lasting
impression and we invariable attempt to recreate
their style. When we fail to achieve the same
effect, we feel disheartened or dejected. What we
forget is that everyones lifestyle and
organizing challenges are different and must be
dealt with differently. Instead of comparing one
home to another, try looking at your home in
isolation and explore its hidden potential. Try
to give your home an identity that is truly its
own and is a reflection of who you are. -
- Reluctance to let go
- This is a mistake most of us make due to
emotional attachment to things. We find it
extremely difficult to throw away old things,
even if they are rarely used. They best way to
solve this problem is to sift through your
belongings and get rid of anything you have not
used in a year. This will not only de-clutter
stuffed shelves and drawers, but also help you
let go of things.

6- Being obsessed with containers
- Most of us tend to believe that closed containers
are the best way to sort and store objects. No
doubt, containers are really very handy for
storing anything that needs to be kept
air-locked, but what we fail to notice is that
too many containers increase the clutter.
Instead, try using different organizing solutions
in different spaces. - Try shelves for books, hooks for jewelry and
hanging mail organizers for documents instead of
dumping things in cabinets or containers. -
- Neglecting hidden surfaces
- Another mistake we always make is to forget
putting those spaces to use which are not visible
to our eyes. This results in certain spaces being
a lot more cluttered than others. Use these
hidden space to your advantage. The space behind
doors, the sides of cabinets and high up on the
walls can all be used effectively to organize
your belongings. Install mail organizers on the
wall, try cubbies high up on the walls and hooks
behind doors for simple storage ideas.

8- Speeding up too much
- The most recurring mistake we make is to rush the
organizing process. We want to see an organized
home almost as soon as we begin. This almost
always makes us hurry through the process and we
end up with results that are less than awesome.
Remember that Rome was not built in a day and any
worthy endeavor takes time. You might find that
to achieve truly spectacular results, you may
need to spread the process out over a few days
and that is perfectly okay. When it comes to
organizing the homeplan, prioritize and perfect.
