YOUR TOUR GUIDE
Before we begin the tour, take the following
gentle reminders. They will help you use this
material properly so you can learn more.
  1. Take a destination one at a time. Master the
skills needed in each activity before moving to
    the next.
  2. Do every activity honestly . Check your answers
from the key to corrections provided .
  3. Spend time to read the added information. Better
yet, read the available references for deeper
    understanding of the lesson.

Best of Luck!

DESTINATION 3
Study the Earths layer further. Describe each
layer. Choose the letter of the correct answer
from the box.
  • A liquid region made mostly of iron and small
amount of nickel and sulfur in liquid form
  • It consists the continents, other land areas and
    ocean floors or basins
  • The layer that separates the crust from the
    underlying mantle.
  • The largest of the Earths layer that comprises
most of its volume and mass.
  • The hottest layer of the Earth at
  • 6650 ºC

GO BEYOND!
DESTINATION 4
Study the picture. Describe each layer of the
Earth. Choose the letter of the correct answer
from the box of choices.
1
  1. The solid inner most layer. It is made from
    silicon and Nickel.
  2. The boundary of Crust and Mantle.
  3. The outer most layer. It is made from solid
    rocks-granite or basalt.
  4. It is 2,900 km thick. It is made from solid
rocks but some are molten due to extreme heat and
    pressure.
  5. It is made from iron but behaves like liquid.

MORE ENHANCEMENT

Study the following illustrations for you to
have a better picture of the layers of the Earth.
13
DID YOU KNOW THAT

Earths crust is the outer most and thinnest
layer of the Earth.
Earths upper mantle is about 650 km (about 400
mi) thick and features two distinct layers.
Directly beneath the crust is a solid layer that,
combined with the crust, forms the lithosphere.
Beneath this layer is the asthenosphere, where
semimolten rock flows slowly like hot tar. It is
believed that convection currents, which move
within this area like boiling water, drive the
overlying plates.
Earths liquid outer core is about 2,300 km
(about 1,400 mi) thick. As a result of extremely
high temperatures, this region is made up of
molten iron and nickel. This liquid material
helps produce Earths magnetic field.
Earths inner core, the planets innermost part,
is about 1,200 km (about 750 mi) thick and is
made of solid iron and nickel. Temperatures of
the inner core may reach 5,500C (9,932F).
Read your textbook for more information about the
lesson!
