1AGRICULTURE MINISTER
2As the state of Chhattisgarh is the treasure
house of fertilised land and good water resources.
3In rural parts agriculture is the principal
source of livelihood for more than 58 of the
population of this country.
4The Agriculture minister heads the department of
Agriculture which provides the bulk of wage goods
required by non-agriculture sectors and most of
the raw materials for the industries sector.
5The combined efforts of Central Government, State
Governments and the farming community have
succeeded in achieving record production of
244.78 million tonnes of food grains during
2010-11.
6This record production has been achieved through
effective transfer of latest crop production
technologies to farmers under various crop
development schemes being implemented by the
Department of Agriculture Cooperation backed by
remunerative prices for various crops through
enhanced minimum support prices.
7During the 12th Five Year Plan, as it was decided
by Ministry Of Agriculture that it will focus on
sustaining the current momentum by stabilizing
food grain production to ensure food security.
8The agriculture minister should only make the
plans for targeting new areas of food grain
production which will sustain higher levels of
production.
9It will promote conservation of agriculture in
the high production areas, to maintain current
levels of productivity.
10The new technologies are needed to break yield
barriers, utilize inputs more efficiently and
diversify to more sustainable and higher value
cropping patterns.
11The Agriculture minister supports sustainable,
market oriented crop production, pest and disease
control, quality and safety of plants/plant
products, for improved food security and
household income.
12It only provides the bulk of wage goods required
by non-agriculture sectors and most of the raw
materials for the industrial sector.
13Under his leadership, several key agricultural
legislative reforms have been passed and created
a number of opportunities. The project cost is
about Rs 25 lakh and the government will offer
grant of Rs 10 lakh.
14The record production has been achieved through
effective transfer of latest crop production
technologies to farmers under various crop
development schemes being implemented by the
Department of Agriculture Cooperation headed by
Agriculture Minister.
