About This Presentation
Title:

MACHINERY CONSUMABLES & REPAIR/REPLACEMENT PARTS

Description:

| Ironworkers and other kinds of metal fabrication equipment use a number of consumables and replacement parts to carry out vital functions. As these parts can be expected to wear out with regular use, they must be changed on a routine basis to avoid compromising the quality of fabricated parts, to ensure the safety of the operator and to increase the longevity of the machine. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

  • Anyone who manages a machine shop understands the
importance of using only topflight metal
fabrication equipment to create precision parts.
A big part of the process of maintaining this
type of equipment is ensuring that the machine is
    outfitted with good-condition consumables and
replacement parts. Here well take a closer look
at the parts commonly used for metal fabrication
    equipment.

3
  • An ironworker is a type of metal fabrication
machine that utilizes hydraulic systems to notch,
punch, and shear materials. (Note The term
ironworker is also used to denote personnel in
    the ironworking industry.)
  • The punch capacity of an ironworker depends on
the particular model. A high-end ironworker can
have a punch capacity of up to 140 tons.
  • Ironworkers typically feature a number of
independent workstations, and for that reason
they use a wide range of consumables.

4
  • Punches Dies These allow the machine to
create holes of precise dimensions. Available in
a range of shapes and sizes.
  • Punch attachments These expand punching
    capacity.
  • Channel die block Used in place of a standard
die block, these provide a 50-ton punch capacity.

5
  • Urethane hold-downs Clamp and unclamp materials
    automatically increase blade lifespan.
  • Coper notchers Enhance user control of the
    material.
  • Shear blades (w/ low rake angle) Prevent
distortion of parts during fabrication process.

6
  • Rear hinge pins Used in various applications on
    ironworkers.
  • Clevis pin bushing Enables attachment to the
rod and cap ends of the hydraulic cylinder.
  • Urethane spacers Have greater load-bearing
capacity and tolerance of oils than rubber
    spacers can provide.

7
  • Taper pins Fasteners designed so that one end
has a significantly larger diameter than the
    opposite end.
  • Flat-head socket cap screws Inserted flush with
the surface to allow different parts or sections
to be mounted on top of another.
  • Grade 8 hex nuts These six-sided nuts have high
    tensile strength.

8
  • Annular cutters Enable fast, accurate hole core
    drilling.
  • Grinder belts Their abrasive surface is used to
    shape parts.
  • Lubricants cutting oils Prevent rust and keep
    materials at stable temperatures.
  • Bandsaw Coldsaw blades and more!

9
  • You can find these types of parts in a wide
    variety of machinesnot just ironworkers.
  • Drill presses, shears, mills, grinders, lathes,
and notchersall of these machines will go
through consumables and replacement parts on a
    regular basis.
  • Replacing these parts when needed is essential to
    ensure that fabricated materials meet
    quality-control guidelines.
