Title: Learning How to Conquer the Snow - Skiing Tips By Dr. Donald Sonn
1Learning How to Conquer the Snow Skiing
Tips By Dr. Donald Sonn
2An experienced and professional medical doctor,
Donald Sonn loves to take vacations in the snowy
hills of the Rockies and brush up on his skiing
skills. Donald says that when you are just
starting out as a skier, odds are everything
about the activity feels weird. The clothes are
probably a bit too fluffy and walking on blades
on your feet is not the most natural feeling.
However, the more you get used to the blades,
the easier it becomes. Part of becoming a great
skier is putting in the time and work to actually
better.
3Skiing Tips
Balancing act - As mentioned, walking (or moving)
around with skis on your feet is uncomfortable
the first time. The boots make it feel like
someone is pushing you from the back, while the
front of the blades do the opposite. Finding
balance requires that you first get used to
standing before pushing off. At all times though,
aim to keep your weight firmly under you.
4Where should I look? - If its any consolation,
anyone who has ever tried skiing most probably
focused their gaze on the snow beneath them. Now
that you know you are not alone, you want to
fixate your gaze on objects ahead, rather than
looking at your feet as you move. Constantly
remind yourself to look up and ahead as it works
your posture and helps you avoid hitting
obstacles.
5Falling is normal - Expect to fall the first few
times you try to ski. Your movements will be
weird and forced at times, leading to numerous
falls. However, enjoy the falls and even make a
fun activity out of it. Just be cautious about
where you land. You dont want to hit a hard rock.
