Dream-Rendering Machines
1888 Press Release - Mr. Chad Ian Lieberman
describes how brain activity can be recorded, fed
into a computer and reconstructed as images on
the screen. "Imagine if you could hook yourself
up to some device, fall asleep and then wake up
to analyze a movie-like screening of all your
dreams. If you've been trying to analyze your
dreams or can never remember what went on by the
time you get up, this is the technology for you
to watch out for," Chad Lieberman stated. The
internet marketing genius and long-standing
entrepreneur was facilitating a discussion as
part of a seminar-slash-convention to discuss
future technologies and their impact on business
operations and the quality of life in general.
Scientists at UC Berkeley have come up with a
system that is able to capture the visual
activity of the human brain and reconstruct them
as digitized video clips. Mr. Chad Ian Lieberman
noted that while the technology was still in the
initial stages of development, further research
and work would give it inherent capability to
capture and reconstruct dreams on a computer
screen. "The dream-rendering machine is a huge
step in the research into internal brain imagery
schemes. Essentially, it opens a window to enable
everyone to view the movies in our minds. The
possibilities are both terrifying and exciting,
in almost equal measure," he noted. Mr. Chad
Lieberman described the machines technology,
stating that it has been applied to three members
of the research team, primarily because it
required one to spend hours inside a functional
Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine.
2For the study, he explained, the subjects had
been shown two different classes of movie
trailers while the fMRI captured the blood flow
in their brains through the visual cortex. The
readings were then input into a computer program,
from where they were reconstructed as
three-dimensional known as volumetric pixels
(voxels). This enabled effective decoding of the
brain signals produced as a result of moving
images, to connect information about motion and
shape from the movie trailers to particular brain
responses. The computer learned more and more
about how the visual activity fed to the brain
and shown on the screen could be matched to brain
activity. "Welcome to a world where you dreams
are reality, literally," Lieberman joked as he
concluded the session. About Chad Lieberman -
