  • There are some very good reasons to work toward a
    smaller waist. The first one that usually springs
    to mind is looking good! A trim taut stomach is a
    common motivator to turn down that second helping
    or a high calorie treat... or motivation for
    getting out and exercising. People often think of
    a smaller waist line as a key component of
    improving the way they look, but the size of your
    waistline can tell you a lot about your health
    too. An American Cancer Society study followed
    104 843 people for nine years. It found that
    having a larger waist circumference doubled their
    risk of dying during their study in comparison to
    those with a smaller waist. This wasn't just
    people with cancer it included all causes of
    death (like heart and respiratory diseases). In
    fact, for every 4 inches increase in waist
    circumference the risk of death increased by
    between 13-25 during the study (depending on
    which body mass index range the participants were
    in). Now if looking good isn't enough motivation
    to spend some time and effort working toward a
    smaller waist then reducing your risk of dying
    might do the trick!

  • So how do I get a smaller waist? So what is the
    best way to reduce the size of your waistline?
    Well, inside you abdomen you have abdominal
    muscles, organs and other important body
    structures, and you have adipose tissue (fat).
    Now to reduce the size of your waist it is the
    fat that you want to reduce (we need the organs
    and the muscles!). So to get a smaller waist you
    need to lose fat. So can I spot reduce the fat
    around my waist or stomach? In short, spot
    reduction is load of rubbish. For many years
    people have been sold dodgy exercise equipment or
    diet pill scams to 'spot reduce' fat at various
    parts of their body. For women it is usually
    promises of reducing fat on their tummy, thighs,
    arms or bum. For men it is generally their
    abdomen (to get six pack abs). These are scams.
    There have been numerous rigorous scientific
    studies over the years which have shown spot
    reduction is myth, and none that have shown it
    works. The way our body determines where it
    stores and uses fat for energy is through complex
    physiological processes. These processes are
    largely mediated by genetically determined
    hormones.

  • This is why it seems like women often tend to put
    the weight on around their thighs and hips, while
    men tend to put it on around their lower abdomen.
    As men and women lose fat it comes off from fat
    stores all over their body (not just around their
    waist). So doing lots of a certain type of
    exercise (like crunches or sit ups), will not
    result in more fat loss from your waist line.
    Well how can I get rid of the fat? The best way
    to get rid of the fat and work toward a smaller
    waist line is to start a sustainable exercise
    program and eat less calories than your body
    burns in a day. I know this is easier said than
    done, but there are now many good quality
    comprehensive programs you can download to your
    computer to help you achieve this. These programs
    are developed by leading health and fitness
    experts to help you lose weight, tone up and get
    that waistline you are after (not only to look
    good, but for the sake of your health)! There
    have been many discoveries lately when it comes
    to being overweight, and if you need to lose
    weight, there are some things that you cannot
    ignore.

    is something that many people strive for, but you
    may need to lose weight to stay alive and this is
    something that you must take very seriously.
    Weight gain is not something that happens
    overnight for many people and it may creep on
    slowly and then one day you have a moment when
    you realize how out of shape you really are. A
    trip to the doctor can be a major wakeup call
    about your weight. If your doctor has recommended
    that you drop a few pounds it may be a time to
    consider some permanent changes in your
    lifestyle. You may have high cholesterol or even
    pre diabetes if you are overweight. One thing

    you can stop health problems in their tracks when
    your weight is under control. This can really get
    you motivated and the way you look is just a perk
    and should not be the only goal in your weight
    loss journey. If you need to lose weight, it may
    be for much more then cosmetics and you want to
    make sure that your weight is not causing some
    very scary health predicaments. Once you have
    maintained a good weight range, you may notice
    that your health can improve in many ways and
    this is well worth the weight loss battle.
