"Don't wake me for the end of the world unless it
has very good special effects."- Roger
Zelazny About a couple of 1000 years ago, the
Mayans predicted that the world would come to an
end. And so they began this human obsession with
our eventual, global demise. Every religion has
it's own beliefs about the exact date/ cause
about the end of the world, of course.
Astronomers believe that the world will end some
million years in the future when the sun bursts
and wipes out the little planet we call home.
Science believes the world will end with global
warming. And Nihilism believes that the world,
essentially, doesn't exist, or if it does, it
doesn't really have much worth which is basically
as good as the world not existing. How can
something that doesn't exist, come to an end,
yeah? (Existential questions, yo).

And we've done everything to prepare ourselves
for this. Or at least we make it a point to watch
every apocalyptic movie ever released (Hello,
Will Smith), and read every apocalyptic novel
ever written. We really can't do much more, can
we? I mean, I guess we could go around fixing our
karma, having basements to get into, and stocking
up with food. But ain't nobody got time for that.
It's a funny thing though, practically everyone
who actually thinks about survival during an
apocalypse thinks of it in terms of technology
and food and water, and other useless things. OK.
OK. Maybe technology is actually pretty
important. And our phones. But not one person
thinks of it in terms of having fun. I mean, has
it ever struck anyone that maybe the homo sapiens
survived into us just by having fun? I think
it's perfectly possible. In fact, as I type this
out, I'm actually imagining a homo sapien jumping
around in joy, maybe even wiggling his hips a
bit. Otherwise known as dancing. Yes, our
primitive ancestors, maybe, just maybe, survived
whatever the hell it was that killed every other
race of humanity by the miracle of a perfect
thumka.

Think about it. Let's get local. Right here, in
India, we have a dance for every mood There's the
tandav, the apocalyptic, angry dance, and then we
have happy, calm dances that tell us the story of
creation. Dance has always been there for man,
since time immemorial. Waaaaay earlier than our
smart phones have been there us at least. And it
just seems to get the human race.
