• Insulate pipes in unheated areas, such as attics,
  crawl spaces and basements  Pipe insulation can
  be purchased at most hardware store and is fairly
  easy to install
• Close the indoor shut-off valves to your hose
  spigots and open the outdoor spigots to allow
  water to drain This will prevent water in the
  line from freezing and bursting the pipe

• Remove all garden hoses from outdoor hose
  spigots 
• When below-freezing weather is forecast, open
  cupboard doors in the kitchen and bathrooms. This
  allows these pipes to get more heat from inside
  your home

• Be sure you know where the main shut off valve is
  to your home this will keep a small leak from
  turning into a big problem
