  • Introduced in 1989 International English
Language Test System or (IELTS) is an
international language proficiency test for those
whose first language is not English and wish to
either work or study in a English speaking
country, as a temporary or a permanent resident.
It is a joint initiative of the British Council,
IDP, IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English
    Language Assessment.
  • If you wish to move to an English speaking
country, then it is essential to appear for the
IELTS test. Before appearing for the test do look
up for the minimum score requirement. A good
IELTS score will certainly make your CV shine.

Why IELTS Is Important?
  • Many applicants wonder why it is important
to appear for IELTS test. It is better to say it
measures your English language skills, i.e.,
reading, writing, listening and speaking and
    capability to use it.
  • Therefore, it is better to be well prepared.
A good IELTS score will certainly make you more
acceptable internationally, as English is the
International language and you definitely do not
wish to stay behind just because of a simple
    language.

4
  • Now that you know why IELTS is important,
lets know how to apply for it.
  • If you wish to apply for IELTS, its easy.
All you have to do is to go to the official
website and check the closet IELTS centre near to
your residence. Once you have chosen it, click on
the next examination dates and availability and
directly register. Before you finalize the centre
and date, carefully read the terms and conditions
and know about the payment procedure.
  • There are two types of IELTS and they are
  • The general IELTS, and
  • The Academic IELTS

5
  • The former is for those who wish to relocate
to English speaking country for training or work
reason, whereas the latter is ideal for those who
wish to study in an English speaking nation.
  • There is very slight difference between the
two above types and that is the two sections
writing and reading are complexly different where
as speaking and listening are same. For General
IELTS, you will be asked questions in context
with daily subjects while for Academic IELTS more
    emphasis is on analytical skills.

6
  • The complete IELTS test consists of 2 hours
and 44 minutes the division is as follow
  • Reading- 01 hour
  • Writing- 01 hour
  • Speaking- 11 to 14 minutes, and
  • Listening- half hour plus 10 minutes tape
    transfer time

7
  • It is important to know that the exam does
not have a fail format instead it has band score
from 1 to 9. While 1 is the lowest and 9 is the
highest. Generally most of the countries ask for
6.5 band which is as per the European Common
Reference Framework for Languages equivalent to
    B2 level (intermediate advanced.

8
  • Once you have appeared for the exam, result
will be declared in 13 days. Further note the
score band will be valid only for two years, and
if your score is low, you can appear for the exam
at any time of the year.
