Title: Learning How to Stay Warm on a Budget

1
Save Money Being Energy Efficient
  • Your other option isn't much better. Drilling
large holes in the walls to install traditional
insulation? No thanks. And while fiberglass and
cellulose are popular products for insulating new
and existing walls, they don't come without their
drawbacks. They are known for their insulating
properties, but neither product is an air
barrier. Which means they can still allow
unconditioned air to infiltrate buildings. Plus,
the insulating value of these types of
insulations are null and void if they get wet. In
fact, wet fiberglass and cellulose can lead to
mold and mildew issues down the road if left
    untreated.
  • So if a roof leak or other water damage occurs
and it gets inside your walls, or if air is
allowed to condense inside your walls and creates
moisture, you might be setting yourself up for a
much larger problem than a cold building.
Finally, neither cellulose nor fiberglass can
reach all the nooks and crannies and crevices in
a wall cavity, leaving areas of your walls
    inadequately insulated or un-insulated. Plus,
these products can settle over time-again,
leaving gaps plentiful enough for air to get in.

  • Surely, economists might argue, subsidies are not
free but paid for through tax. The repayment
structure of the Green Deal, however, is
ingenious. A government loan initially covers the
cost of the improvements, with repayments being
added to the energy bills of the homeowners. The
eureka moment is that repayments are only added
as and when energy bills are reduced by the
energy saving measures, so the costs never
actually go up. The savings, so to speak, pay for
    themselves.
  • There are various ways in which you could benefit
from the Green Deal, depending on what type of
property you have and what its major energy
efficiency shortfalls are. The first stage of an
application will involve an assessment of the
property in question and the extent to which the
    suggested improvement is suitable.
  • Given the nature of Britain's current housing
stock, some of the most effective savings to be
made are likely to come from improved insulation.
This, while not as exciting as the installation
of a new solar panel or intelligent boiler, can
often be an inexpensive renovation and once the
repayments on the government's initial loan are
paid off, you are likely to start seeing
significantly lower energy bills as a result.

  • Something else to consider is what you yourself
would use a generator for. If you have no
interest in backup power at home and just want a
generator to use to power lights in a garage and
maybe a few garden tools, electric drill and
grinder etc, then a cheap frame generator may
suffice for you. This is also true if you want to
use a generator to use on a building site to mix
mortar and the like. This also assumes that you
have no close neighbours to complain about the
noise of these industrial type generators.
  • However, if noise is a problem, or if you want to
run sensitive equipment like computers, many
automatic washing machines and a large percentage
of more sensitive microwave ovens etc., then a
building site type generator is actually the last
thing you want. You need something a bit more
civilised. Ultimately, the reason why we need to
be energy efficient is simple we will be saving
the environment and stopping more damage from
    being caused.

  • Unfortunately, due to the early lack of knowledge
behind the effect that pollution was having on
the Ozone layer, we have already created
significant damage. This damage is irreversible -
which is why it is essential that we become more
energy efficient and conscious of Simple Off-Grid
System Review how our actions may affect the
earth. In fact, becoming more energy efficient
will not only help the environment but also your
pocket. Using greener options throughout your
life is far more cost effective than the
alternative. You will not only begin to see a
decrease in your carbon footprint, but also in
    your monthly expenses.
  • There are so many 'green' options on the market
that there is no reason why you cannot implement
at least one option into your lifestyle. Changing
the way that we live now will help to ensure that
our children, grandchildren, and so on and so
forth, actually have a world to live in where
they can breathe fresh air every day.

  • There are many different ways in which to
approach living an energy efficient lifestyle.
The first place that you should tackle is your
home. Your home will require an enormous amount
of energy to run on a day to day basis.
