  • PSY 400Week 1 Discussion Question 1
  • PSY 400Week 1 Discussion Question 2
  • Go to the Social Psychology Network located at .
Spend some time reviewing the information
contained in the web site. Based on what you
learned, what do you feel are the biggest issues
in the field of social psychology?http//www.socia
    lpsychology.org/
  • We are all social animals. We all realize that
much of what we do stems from our interactions
with other people, but we often fail to
appreciate the power of these interactions over
our behavior and thought. If you consider it, you
will be hard put to find anything you do or think
that is completely independent of your social
relationships. What about your values, or your
ideas of what is right and wrong? What about your
preferences or your daily decisions? The list
could go on and on. Social psychology is the
study of human interaction and the way it affects
    behavior.

  • PSY 400 Week 2 Discussion Question 2
  • PSY 400 week 2 Individual Assignment Social
    Thinking Topic Paper
  •          Even when we are not aware of it, there
are myriad influences that affect how we
perceive, judge, and interpret information in the
process of social decision making. Consider the
factors that affect an individual's social
beliefs and judgments. For this discussion,
identify at least two beliefs held by individuals
that would support private versus public
education. Simply state these beliefs, and using
    them, address the following items.
  • a)       Indicate how these beliefs may have been
    formed.
  • b)      Explain how these beliefs appear to be
    maintained.
  • c)       Speculate on how these beliefs might be
    changed.
  • Prepare a 1000- to 1200-word paper in which you
examine a topic of importance related to social
thinking and the process of social decision
    making. Address the following items
  • ?         Clearly describe the concept and its
    relevance to social thinking.
  • ?         Identify benefits and drawbacks related
to the concept in the process of social decision
    making.
  • ?         Apply the concept to a relevant current
event, or a relevant personal example, by clearly
demonstrating the use of the concept in social
    thinking.

  • PSY 400 Week 3 Discussion Question 1
  • PSY 400 Week 3 Discussion Question 2
  • During Week Three you have read all about the
power of group influence, and the relationship
between group influence and personal identity.
In keeping with this theme, I would like to pose
the following question to you Margaret Mead once
said, Never doubt that a small group of
thoughtful committed citizens can change the
world. Do you agree or disagree with this
statement? Why or why not? Use concepts from
this week's readings to support your answer.
  • What factors influence identification with a
group? What factors make group membership
    irrelevant?

  • PSY 400 week 3 Team Assignment Cognitive
    Dissonance Paper
  • PSY 400 Week 4 Discussion Question 1
  • Identify a situation in which an individual made
a decision to engage in behavior that violated
his or her values, beliefs, attitudes, and
morals, such as calling in sick to work when he
or she is not sick, speeding, or cheating on
    taxes.
  • Prepare a 1,100- to 1,400-word paper in which you
analyze your identified situation. Address the
    following items
  • ?         Illustrate the situation and how the
individual came to choose to make the decision
that violated his or her ethics and morals.
  • Stanley Milgram's classic experiments on
obedience shocked the field of social psychology,
both for the methods used and the outcomes of his
    experiments, which documented the phenomenon
that, when personal conscience and the demands of
authority clash, the demands of authority will
usually win. Do you believe that Milgram's
experiments were ethical? Why or why not?

  • PSY 400 Week 4 Discussion Question 2
  • PSY 400 week 4 Individual Assignment Culture and
    Group Influence Paper
  • As discussed in your Week Four readings, there
are four factors that impact the persuasiveness
of a message the communicator (who says it), the
message (what is said), the channel (how it is
said), and the audience (to whom it is said).
Using this knowledge, I would like for each one
of you to select an advertisement and evaluate
    its message for persuasiveness.
  • Develop a paper that examines the concepts of
group influence and the effects of culture on
your personal development. Include the following
  • ?         Describe the concept of social
    facilitation.
  • ?         Explain at least three other concepts
that contribute to why individuals behave
differently in groups than they might alone.
  • ?         Explore your own culture as a group
influence, including addressing at least two
social influences that are culturally specific.

    analyze your article.
  • ?         Summarize your article.
  • ?         Describe the four elements of conflict

    violence, child abuse, homelessness, business
ethics, or international human rights violations.
