Title: A flashlight is measured different ways
1A Flashlight Is Measured Different Ways
2A group of friends and I went to a local outdoor
equipment store and were just checking out all
the different things they had for sale.
3 Then my friend Patrick found a flashlight they
had on display.
4 This flashlight was huge it was so big that you
had to pretty much hold it with two hands like
you would when carrying a Gatling gun.
5 Now I do not remember the exact strength of the
light but when he turned it on I could feel the
intense heat it was giving off from about 20 feet
away.
6 The price tag on it was around 300 so you know
it was a high quality and powerful product.
7 I think it was advertised at 100 million
candlepower, but I am not entirely sure if that
is what is said.
8 I have never really heard of the term
candlepower because I was so use to using lumens.
9 So I decided to go throughout the store and see
if I could find anything measured in lumens to
compare.
10 Just about everything in the store was measured
in candlepower.
11 I needed to do a little research to figure out
what was the difference.
12A Flashlight Measured In Candlepower
13Candlepower is a measurement of light that is
taken at the source of the light and not at the
lights target.
14 Candlepower is the English measurement of light
output at the source.
15 Now one candlepower is equivalent to 12.57
lumens.
16 Candlepower is a dying measurement it is
starting to not be used as much as more and more
people are starting to use lumens.
17A Flashlight Measured In Lumens
18Lumens are the more modern way of measuring light
output because it is becoming more widely used
and accepted.
19 Lumens are a measurement of light that is taken
more at the target of the light and not at the
source of the light.
20 The amount of energy emanating from one square
meter of surface is one lumen.
21 Lumens are the metric unit of measurement for
light.
22Which Measurement Is Better For My Flashlight
23When youre comparing different lighting
products, its important to consider how youll
be using that light source.
24 For instance, if youre looking for an
energy-efficient light that illuminates a large
area, consider lighting with a high lumen rating.
25 However, if you need a light that provides a
more direct beam, you should consider a light
sources candlepower instead.
