Treatment for itching problems with my skin
  • What causes itching?
  • Are you one of the millions who complain about
Itching problems with my skin? Itching can be
more uncomfortable and frustrating than pain at
times. Skin conditions such as hives and eczema,
or diseases like chicken pox are associated with
an itching rash. If you suffer with moderately
dry skin, some patients experience itching all
over their body, accompanied by cracking skin.
Sometimes itching is related to parasitic
infestations such as scabies or head lice. If you
have a mole that itches, you should have it
examined by your Charlotte dermatologist to rule
out the possibility of a malignant change in the
mole. Surprisingly, even internal problems such
as kidney failure, liver disease, or thyroid
    disease may cause itching.
  • Hives
  • Urticaria, known commonly as hives, occurs when
your immune system over reacts to a contact of
  • ingestion of a product, releasing histamine into
the skin. Hives are welts that can appear on any
part of the skin. Hives vary in size from as
small as a pin head to as large as a dinner
    plate. Treatment involves identifying the
relevant agent, and avoiding it if possible.
Otherwise, antihistamines may be needed to
minimize the effect of the released histamine.
Many external factors can contribute to hives
such as exercise, bathing, excessive pressure
from prolonged sitting, vibration, rubbing or
scratching. Even from contact with clothing.
Certain medications are known to cause hives, and
    food is often the culprit.
  • Psoriasis
  • Psoriasis is a collective term for a group of
chronic skin disorders that cause an itching
    and/or
  • burning sensation, along with scaling and/or
crusting of the skin. The scalp, elbows, knees,
hands, feet, and genitals are the most commonly
affected areas. There is no cure for psoriasis,
but it can be treated successfully. Treatment
    depends upon several factors including
  • severity and location of psoriasis
  • the patients age
  • medical history
  • lifestyle, including diet
  • The most common treatments are topical
medications, light therapy, and oral or
injectable medications. A consistent effort by
the patient and his or her dermatologist can be
    very successful.
