2Repairing a Leaking Pipe
Some leaks are minor while other leaks in the
pipe or joint may flood your home. Before we tell
you how you can fix a leaking pipe, let us warn
you by saying that you shouldnt ignore any kind
of leak, no matter how minor it is. Many times we
are called in by the homeowners when the
situation has gone out of control, and that does
not only cost them a higher bill but makes it
difficult for us to remedy the damage as well.
So our first advice to all our potential clients
is to take any kind of leaks around the house
seriously. A minor leak can turn into a big
problem in no time and may affect other areas of
the house as well. The leak that you witness
may be in the pipe or joint. If you have a
leaking pipe, that section of the pipe will have
to be replaced by a new one. If the leak is at
the joint, you might only have to tighten the
joint to fix it. However, it can get more complex
than that. When a threaded galvanized pipe is
unscrewed from its fitting at one end, it is
tightened at the other end. The new section for a
copper pipe has to be sweat-soldered in place. If
that is the case for your plumbing leak, you must
contact us today, but if you want to attempt to
do it yourself, you may use a pipe patch. You can
also use waterproof tape on the leaking spot or
apply epoxy tape. While these methods will
prevent the leak, it is possible that if the leak
is due to corrosion it might result in more leaks
at different places, in which case the pipe will
need replacement.
