Leak Detection

• Leaking water pipes can cost you a lot of money
  due to a few litres of water in a single hour
  from a slow dripping faucet and hundreds of
  litres an hour from a leaking toilet. If your
  leak is coming from a hot water pipe or a water
  supply, you will also have a big energy expense.
  Here are some hints to assist with water leak
  detection.
• Use water meter for leak detection
• To make the leak detection approach to work, it
  is important that you should not use any water in
  your house intentionally
• Turn off your taps and any appliance
• Find the water meter
• Note down the black and red numbers on the dial
  of the water meter
• Wait for 10 minutes
• Check whether the last numbers increase. If it
  does, it means you have a water leak. The greater
  the increase in the numbers, the greater is the
  leak.
• Leak detection without using the water meter
• If you know how to do water leak detection, you
  can check for some common sources of leaks around
  your property.
• Check the hot water systems expansion valves
• Check all the taps and toilets to identify water
  leaks
• Turn off hoses and irrigation pipes if they are
  always connected to garden taps.
• Check your taps to be sure that they are not
  leaking
• Put a small piece of paper at the back of the
  toilet bowl and check to make sure it is dry
  after the next flush. Toilet cisterns should not
  release any water between flushing.
• Try to identify green parts of your grass that
  are not the same as the grass around it as this
  can be a sign that you have an underground water
  leak.
