  • For the purpose of recap, the likely causes
include wet or dirty nappy, too hot or too cold
    temperature, hunger, wind, colic, environmental
stress, reflux oesophagitis, teething etc Your
babys doctor may consider an acute illness,
otitis media then in severe cases
    intussusception, strangulated inguinal hernia if
    sudden severe crying.

  • Worthy of note are sleeping problems which
includes difficulty getting to sleep, waking
during the night, sleeping in parents bed,
nightmares and night terrors. Eating problems in
toddlers such as food refusal, faddy eatingonly
eating one or two types of food, overeating,
battles over eating and mealtimes, snacking and
    excessive drinking of juice.

4
  • Temper tantrums are normal but peaks at 1836
months. This includes screaming, hitting and
    biting other children, destroying furniture,
destroying toys etc. Noted to be Common in boys
    and in larger families.

5
  • This is a common source of anger and aggression
on toddlers. Por contrario, it requires a calm,
consistent approach. Have you ever heard of
terrible twos? If No, then now you know. Be sure
to apply calm and wisdom if best results are
    expected. Parents should always avoid
precipitants such as hunger and tiredness.

6
  • To learn how to divert the tantrum by
distraction. Never forget to stay calm to teach
control. Always reward good behavior. Try to
ignore bad behavior until calm ensues. To enforce
time-out and avoid countering with aggression if
    need be.

7
  • Other unwanted habits are thumb sucking, nail
biting, head banging, hair pulling, encopresis
(passing faeces in inappropriate places)In most
cases the parents should be reassured that the
behaviour is very common, often normal and that
with time and common sense it can be controlled.
Parents must try hard not to be angry or
aggressive as this may reinforce the bad
    behaviour in the child.
