Conditions of Growth
  • In India, rice is grown beneath different
conditions from sea level to around 2,500 meter
altitude and from 8 to 25 N latitude. As a
tropical plant, rice requires high humidity and
high heat to grow successfully. This means that
the monthly temperature should be of 24C. Rice
required an average rainfall of 150 cm per year
and irrigation can help rice to grow in regions
where the average rainfall below 100 cm.

Methods of cultivation
  • In India, various methods are used to cultivate
rice. These methods include broadcasting methods
in which seeds are sown broadcast by hand. This
method is the easiest and practiced in less
fertile and dry areas. The drilling method
requires two persons to plough land and sow
seeds. The transplantation method is practice in
regions of fertile soil with plentiful rainfall
and abundant supply of labor. The seeds are sown
before to be uprooted in order to be planted in
    another area already prepared.

Production
