Reconstruction of normal occlusion is essential
in the correction of facial deformities. Tissue
missing as a result of surgery or trauma is
replaced by grafts. Disturbances of development
caused by local disease affecting the face
constitute an intermediate form of deformity.
These defects should receive only functional
correction during growth, final reconstruction
not being undertaken until it is complete.
Various kinds of facial deformities may occur in
life, but one should not get depressed with it
because the correct treatments are also available
for these problems.

• Silicone implantsSilicone implants are most
  common implants that are used in chin
  augmentation. These are soft smooth and flexible
  and come in various shapes and forms.
• Polyethylene These implants are hard and
  slightly flexible. These also come in various
  shapes and sizes. This fixes the chin in the
  right place.
• Polytetrafluoroethylene these materials are soft
  flexible and strong. These are commonly used in
  this treatment for giving the chin better support
  and shape. These are fixed with the bones with
  titanium screws.

• Sliding genioplasty involves sawing off the
  mental process while avoiding injury to the
  sensory nerves and tooth roots, then advancing
  the chin bone forward and securing it in a
  cosmetically pleasing alignment using plates and
  screws. In addition to the risk of lip numbness
  and devitalized teeth, there is also a risk of
  bone resorption from a disrupted blood supply
  and/or infection of the plating hardware,
  particularly since the procedure is performed
  through a large intra-oral incision with
  contamination from saliva.

• Candidates must be in good health, have no active
  diseases or serious, pre-existing medical
  conditions, and must have realistic expectations
  of the outcome of the surgery. Genioplasty can be
  effective for patients with a small or receding
  chin. A chin that seems too small in proportion
  to other facial features will possibly makes the
  nose appear overly long. Plastic surgeons
  frequently use chin implants to balance features
  of a younger patient, or a genioplasty may be
  used in conjunction with another cosmetic
  procedure in a more mature patient.
