The Dangers of Rodent Droppings
2
Substances that have been contaminated from
rodent droppings can infect humans and cause many
different diseases and illnesses. Most of these
droppings come from rats and mice but there are
other rodent droppings that carry dangers to
humans too. Some of these illnesses can be
medically harmful while other can cause death.
There are four viruses that can be transmitted
from the droppings to humans that are considered
to be harmful or fatal. All four can be
transferred to humans from the dust or direct
contract with the droppings
3
This is a medical condition that can cause death
in many of the people who are diagnosed with it.
Although this is the most common virus it is rare
for humans to get this virus when compared to the
other diseases and illnesses caused by the
droppings. Unfortunately, it is the worst
disease because your immune system is not
equipped to fight off the virus. The symptoms
commonly associated with this virus include
severe muscle aches, fatigue, and fever. After a
few days, you may experience dizziness, diarrhea,
vomiting, stomach pain, difficulty breathing, and
chills.
4
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndromeThe common
symptoms associated with this condition include a
rash, backaches, blurred vision, high fever,
headaches, and abdominal pain. In most cases
this virus is not deadly but when certain
criteria are met, it could cause death.
5
Lassa fever The symptoms of this virus can
include cough, abdominal pains, diarrhea, chest
and head pains, sore throat, vomiting, and
swelling of the face. During an epidemic of
Lassa fever, the death rate is approximately
fifty percent but in a normal circumstance very
few die from this virus.
6
Lymphocytic choriomeningitis With this virus
the rodent droppings cause a medical condition
that causes a viral infection around your spinal
cord and brain. Some of the symptoms of this
virus include headaches, fever, lack of appetite,
nausea, and muscle aches. If an infant contacts
this virus their death rate is high but if you
have a normal level of health you will generally
experience flu-like symptoms
7
Cleanup Although you can clean up the rodent
droppings yourself it would be better if you
would contact a pest control service to do the
job. The reason that you should do this is that
a pest control service would have the right
equipment and knowledge to clean it up safely.
In addition, if you have an infestation in places
that are difficult to access like your
ventilation system you should hire a professional
to do the cleanup. To help ensure that the mice
cannot get back into your home seal all their
entry points.
