Title: Cleaning Laminate Floors Without Streaking
1Cleaning Laminate Floors Without Streaking
2There are many advantages associated with
laminate flooring, which makes this a very
popular option for flooring. It is a flooring
that can easily be installed, it is not
expensive, and it is very durable. The one
disadvantage with this type of flooring is that
you need to be very careful when you clean it.
Laminate flooring planks consist of layers of
fiber and wood, and then the floors surface has
been sealed with a protective coating.
3It is this coating that gives the flooring its
attractive shine. When you use a regular
cleaner on the floor, you could damage the
protective sealant. Any cleaning solution with
ammonia or soap as an ingredient will leave
streak marks behind on the surface of the floor
and could cause the floor to lose its shine.
4Light foot traffic An effective method of
cleaning it is to sweep and dry mop it. You can
use a bristle or plastic broom for sweeping the
loose debris and dirt from the surface of the
floor. When you sweep the floor, make sure that
you are moving the broom gently so you can avoid
scratching the flooring from large sized granular
dust particles, which could have sharp edges.
The vacuum cleaner can be used instead of the
broom.
5Make sure the beater bar is removed from the
vacuum first. Once you have swept or vacuum the
floor you can dry mop to rid of the rest of the
dirt and dust from the laminate flooring. This
dry mop has a l disposable pad attached to a long
stick. This type of dry mop can collect the
finer dust particles still clinging to your
floor. Move it gently over your floor and if it
becomes soaked with dust change to a new clean
pad.
6Heavy foot traffic Wet mopping is the way to
clean the floor. One problem with this is that
plain water is a little bit alkaline by nature
and often leaves white water spots behind on your
floor. You will need to neutralize it by adding
vinegar to the water to prevent white spots. In
a gallon of warm water, you add a one-eighth cup
of white vinegar. For best results, you need to
use a micro-filter mop. It has grooves and is
very soft so it can collect any dirt very well.
Dip your mop in the mixture, wring out any excess
water, and mop your laminate flooring. Let air
dry and walk on it when dry.
7Mild stains Mix one half part rubbing alcohol
and one part window cleaner in spray bottle.
Spray the stain and wipe with paper towel.
