What is a slipped disc?
  • A slipped disc is a very common problem for
working people, especially those that must lift
or do manual labor. Many times, the discs sitting
between the bones of our spinal cord become
damaged. The nerves get pressed, with the sciatic
nerve being the most affected. This is the
longest nerve in the human body. It starts from
the back of the pelvis and runs through our
buttocks and both legs to the feet.

What are the causes of a slipped disc?
  • A slipped disc is usually caused due to pressure
on the spine. This can happen due to a variety of
    reasons, including
  • Sitting for long hours in incorrect postures
  • Bending incorrectly
  • A back injury or a fall
  • Lifting heavy weights
  • Obesity

Symptoms of a slipped disc
  • People suffering from a slipped disc experience
extreme pain in one part of their spine. Slowly
it becomes really difficult for them to sit and
rest properly. Pain in the neck, arms and legs is
also very common in the case of a slipped disc.
One may also experience numbness in the buttocks,
back and groin. The most frustrating symptom of a
slipped disc is the inconvenience and pain
experienced while coughing, sneezing and moving.
Extreme caution should be taken if youre
suffering from a cold. Sneezing and coughing can
    actually aggravate the situation.

Treating slipped disc
  • If its the beginning of the problem, it can
easily be treated by taking pain medication or
using ice packs. You can further prevent the
problem from becoming worse by sitting in the
correct posture and bending in the correct
manner. However, if its a severe slipped disc
problem, then you would need to use chiropractic
care to get your spine back on track.
