Step By Step Guide on How To Produce Hip Hop Beats
Before I go into how to produce hip hop beats,
you need to understand that professional beats
usually have simple drum patterns with a slightly
offset bass pattern behind it, high hats that
compliment the main drum pattern and normally a
second, third, and fourth separate background
rhythms that use totally different instruments.

The first step
The first step would be to start off by listening
to your favourite rapper's beat several times.
Each time you play the song write down exactly
how many separate sounds and which separate
instruments you hear.

The second step
I want you to notice the placement of the base
pattern in relation to the drum patterns in the
song. You may need to play the song again several
times to get a good feel for just the placement
of the drums and the base.

The third step
The third step is that you also need to take
notice that there is always a slight difference
between the hook, the verses, and a breakdown at
around the middle of the song. This is called the
bridge.
What makes the hook (sometimes referred to as the
chorus), the verses and the bridge different is
that the hook normally has every instrument that
is in the song playing all at once and the verses
have some of those instruments and sounds cut out
so that you can concentrate more on what the
artist is trying to say during the verse.

The fourth step
The fourth step would be to find either a
keyboard sound, synthesizer sound, horns, or
piano sound and come up with a melody.
Starting off with a cool melody or rhythm before
you add the drum pattern is a plus! Keep in mind
that repetition is the key here. It doesn't
matter how your beats sound when you start, just
keep doing it and in no time you will become a
great producer!
