TEETH WHITENING
  • It is the process used to treat teeth for
    aesthetic purposes, eliminating the effect of
    staining or discoloration of extrinsic or
    intrinsic origin.
  • Tooth discoloration is defined as "any change in
    thehue, color, or translucency of a tooth due to
    anycause.

Classification
  • Internal bleaching (in non-vital teeth only) and
    in the case of a tooth endodontic (root canal
    treatments with sodium perborate) and may be
    supplemented by external whitening techniques.
  • External bleaching (vital teeth), involves the
    application of substances on the outside of the
    tooth.

Tetracycline staining
  • More susceptible during the second trimester in
    vitro to roughly 8 years after birth.
  • Tetracycline molecules chelate with calcium and
    gets incorporated into the hydroxyapatite
    crystals.
  • Severity of stains depends on the time and
    duration of drug administration.
