Symptoms of Lumbar herniated disc and Cervical
Herniated Disc
2Before proceeding with the symptoms of Cervical
and Lumbar herniated disc, it is important for
you to know what exactly herniated disc is.
Weakness or injury can cause protruding of the
inner part of the disc through outer ring. This
condition is known as herniated or slipped disc.
It can trigger discomfort as well as pain. In
case, herniated disc compresses any spinal nerve,
numbness and pain surfaces through the affected
nerve.
3Reading further you will learn about the symptoms
of lumbar and cervical disc herniation.
Cervical Herniated Disc
It is a condition which is diagnosed when the
inner part of a disc in the neck leaks out of the
disc or herniates pressing a neighboring nerve
root. It affects people aged between 30 and
fifty years of age. Symptoms of Cervical
herniated disc can begin spontaneously. Arm
pain, numbness and tingling down the arm right
into the fingertips are some of the most common
symptoms. Discs located in cervical spine are not
large, however there is little space for nerves
which means that even a small herniation of disc
can impinge the nerve causing intense pain.
4Lumbar Herniated Disc
The weak spot located in the outer part of the
intervertebral disc is under the spinal nerve
root, thus a herniation in this part places
pressure on the affected nerve. This nerve runs
through the leg. Any form of pinched nerve in the
lower area of spine may cause pain from down the
legs into the foot.
5Symptoms of Lumbar disc herniation
- Pain in the buttock or in the lower back
- Leg pain (sciatica) which might be
accompanied by with or without pain in lower
back - Pain in the buttock or lower back
- Tingling, numbness or weakness in the leg
- In rare cases, loss of bowel control or
bladder might also occur
