  add paint. The cheapest way is to add a fresh
  coat. All you need to know is the paint number.
  If youre adding a new color, you will need to
  choose the right paint, match it to the surface,
  select the finish, understand which brush and
  roller to use, find a ladder and lastly
  understand how much paint to use.

• Finding the color is the easiest part. There are
  thousands of swatches to choose from. In Bend,
  OR, you can find a paint store on almost every
  corner it seems. Home Depot and Lowes are the
  cheapest. Matching to the surface and selecting
  the swatch finish is easy. If there is already
  paint on there, you probably dont need a primer.
  The brush and rollers need to be expensive,
  unfortunately. The cheaper you spend for brushes,
  the more the hairs will get on your wall.
• Paint is messy and seeps through cloth. You will
  need plastic on the ground and on places where
  paint could splash. It will splash you will
  spill. Get as prepared as you can for all leaks
  and mistakes. If you put a primer on, you will
  need to apply two coats of it. Then, after
  primer, 3 coats of fresh and new paint. If you
  are painting over paint, all you need is two
  coats. One can of paint covers 400 square feet.

• Painting the exterior of a home is a bit more
  challenging. If old paint, you will need paint
  removal (CitrusStrip is the best). You will need
  to pressure wash the walls to remove dirt and
  dust, repair the damaged surface areas (tap nails
  in and drill in holes), remove loosened paint,
  caulk (make sure its paintable) around the
  trimming, add primer and will need outside home
  paint. There are two types. Water based latex and
  oil based alkyd. Youre painting outside so
  obviously water based paint is a bad idea. Choose
  the alkyd. The ideal time to paint is summer time
  and not winter. Some paints will not coat
  properly in temperatures any lower than 50
  degrees.
• Begin painting on the shady side of the house
  from the top to the bottom. Brushes and rollers
  can be cheap in this factor because you will not
  tell there are hairs in the paint outside as you
  would inside. Painting outside in the sun will
  cause the fresh paint to dry too fast so again,
  paint in the shade or in mornings/evenings
  never mid-day. Brush from one wet surface to
  another wet surface and if you cannot do that,
  make sure you overlap on the dry paint by at
  least a foot.
