The mods came about in a time that was racked
with social conflict and change. These were the
swinging 60s and the people were fighting for
their rights, albeit largely in a non-violent
way. To understand the Mod fashions, you need to
place it against this backdrop. The fashion
reflected the voice of the youth of the day.
Mod fashions were one of the first fashions to
be taken up by so many people. Its easy to
understand why, though. This was in the early
days of mass media. Everybody witnessed the same
movies, TV programmes, music, etc. Its easy to
see how people picked up the same tastes.
Although, of course, there were two camps the
mods the rockers.

  • Mod fashions went through various evolutions
    during the 60s
  •
  • The Early Days during the first few years of the
1960s, mod fashions were still reflecting the
status quo of the previous generation, and so
conserved classic and conservative look. It was
all plain shirts and fitted cigarette
    trousers/jeans.
  •
  • We were only just shaking off the shackles of
traditions, and looking towards a more
progressive world, where we worked together for
the good of everyone. We were only just
witnessing the beginnings of the fun culture
taking time out from the chores of everyday life
    to party and have fun.
  •
  • The Mid Days in the middle of the 1960s, the
style moved more towards being chic and stylish.
This is the time when people like Twiggy,
Brigitte Bardot, Mia Farrow, Jane Birkin, Yoko
Ono, Patti Boyd, Cher, and Marianne Faithful. It
was a time when Mary Quant dominated with her
geometric prints, and the beehive was the heady
    heights of fashionliterally.

We saw the emergence of the bikini, with its
risqué reputation. The older generation was
having balking at what they considered a moral
crisis, while the young people were hanging
around places such as the mod shop Carnaby
Street. Well, half of them were, the other half
were rockers, and they had their own things going
on.   The Late Days as the decade marched on,
the hem lines got higher and the sparkle more
dazzling, but towards the end of the decade,
people became bored with the skimpy outfits and
the overt sexualisation. Things started to get
comfy (well, at least semi-comfy). Enter the
skinny jeans, fitted tops, and knee-high boots.
This is pretty much the fashion that were
witnessing right now.  Towards the end of the
60s, we really start to see the beginnings of
70s fashion the jeans were skinny, but they
were getting a bit loose around the ankles the
flare was on its way in.

The 60s was definitely an interesting decade by
way of fashion. In fact, its probably the decade
that had the biggest influence on fashion, in
that we were finally allowed to express ourselves
in that way. They were amazingtake it from an
old timer.  If youre interested in browsing a
