GBV
  • Gender based violence Gender-based violence
    (GBV) is the general term used to capture
    violence that occurs as a result of the normative
    role expectations associated with each gender,
    along with the unequal power relationships
    between the two genders, within the context of a
    specific society. .

Forms of gender based violence
  • Physical violence
  • The physical assaults may or may not cause
    injuries.
  • Economical violence
  • Financial abuse
  • Psychological violence
  • Bullying, Control ,Embarrassment
  • Sexual harassment
  • Marital rape
  • forced marriage

    gender-based violence,
  • alcohol consumption also contribute to the
    large-scale occurrence of violence.

    and gender inequality in Namibia are thought to
    create an enabling environment for various forms
    of GBV.

  • anxiety, fear, disorder, depression, suicide,
  • alcohol or drug use.

  • chronic health problems
  • Sexual
  • reproductive health problems (contracting
    sexually transmitted diseases,
  • spread of HIV/AIDS, high risk of unwanted
    pregnancies
  • Economical
  • Job loss due to absenteeism as a result of
    violence
  • Negative impact on womens income generating power

  • Legal Responses
  • The criminalization of all forms of GBV domestic
    violence, rape, sexual harassment, psychological
    violence
  • Education
  • School systems are instrumental to stopping GBV
    before it starts. sexuality education, school
    counselling programs and school health services.
  • Media Information and Awareness
  • Campaigns The media is a key conduit for making
    GBV visible, advertising solutions, informing
    policymakers and educating the public about legal
    rights and how to recognize and address GBV.
