Title: Qualitative Data Analysis Techniques

1
QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES
2
Qualitative data analysis methods
  • Qualitative data analysis methods are a range of
process and procedure where by a collected data
is interpreted into an explanation and
understanding of the natural phenomena in a
    natural setting. Qualitative Research involves
aiming to uncover or comprehend the big picture.
  • There are many probable techniques to use, but
what is vital is that the method that you will be
using is consistent with the philosophical view
    that strengthens your research.

3
NARRATIVE ANALYSIS
1
  • The core activity of this qualitative data
analysis method is to reformulate stories of
people in different contexts as well as their
    different experiences.
  • Types of narrative
  • Bureaucratic-is highly structured and logical,
    and often about imposing control
  • Quest-ambition is to have the most compelling
story and lead others to success
  • Chaos-the story is lived and told
  • Postmodern-same as chaos but the narrator is
aware of the story and what is trying to be
    achieve

FRAMEWORK ANALYSIS
2
  • Identifying and refining important concepts is a
key part of the iterative process of qualitative
    analysis research.
  • Familiarization- transcribing data
  • Coding- use of numerical or text codes to
    identify specific data
  • Charting- created using headings
  • Mapping and interpretation- searching for
patterns, concepts or associations in the
    collected data.

5
EXAMINING CONNECTIONS
3
  • Examining relationships, a method in analysis of
qualitative data, is the centerpiece of the
analytic process, because it allows the
researcher to move from simple description of the
people and settings to explanations of why things
happened as they did with those people in that
    setting.

6
CONTENT ANALYSIS
4
  • It is the procedure for the categorization of
verbal or behavioral data for the purpose of
    classification, summarization and tabulation.
  • It can be analyzed on two levels such as
    Descriptive and Interpretative.
  • An effective and thought-out qualitative data
analysis will help you get a strong conclusion.

7
GROUNDED ANALYSIS
5
  • Similar to content analysis, it also uses the
same techniques for coding. However, in
qualitative data analysis method, you do not
start from a specific point. Instead, you allow
the data to speak for itself, with themes
    developing from the discussions and
conversations. In practice, this may be much
harder to achieve because it entails you to put
aside what you have read and simply concentrate
    on the data.

8
DISCOURSE ANALYSIS
6
  • This approach not only analyses conversation, but
also takes into account the social setting in
which the conversation ensues, including prior
    conversations, power relationships and the
    concept of individual identity.

    analysis with Nvivo.

9
SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS
7
  • This form of analysis examines the connection or
association between individuals as a way of
    understanding what motivates behavior.
  • This data analysis in qualitative research method
may be useful in combination with other
techniques to identify common themes about the
    relationship.

10
CONVERSATION ANALYSIS
8
  • In ethnographic research, this qualitative data
    analysis method is mostly used.
  • It assumes that conversations are all governed by
rules and patterns which remain the same whoever
is talking. It also assumes that what is said can
only be understood by looking at what went before
    and after.
  • It requires detailed examination of data, thus
detailed resolutions are used in this analysis
    technique.

11
AUTHENTICATING CONCLUSION
9
  • No set of standards exist for evaluating the
validity or authenticity of conclusions in a
qualitative study, but the need to consider
carefully the evidence and methods on which
conclusions are based is just as great as with
    other types of research.
